Let The Games (Bribes) Begin

So New York City wants to host the 2012 Olympics. Now I'm sure NYC can pull this off, but the question is, "Do we want to?". Will it really benefit the city, or just the few corrupt contractors that win the bids. Will it help the infrastructure? Will it benefit the local economy?

The city and surrounding areas are crowded enough, but that's life around here. One of the main sticking points is the building of a new stadium on the West Side. NYC does not need a new stadium there. Sure it would be nice, but we have an old, outdated stadium in Queens that sorely needs replacing. Replace Shea Stadium with a new one and both the Mets and Jets could play there. Why does it have to be in Manhattan? Something smells... and its not just the fish market. I've heard the pros and cons, and what it boils down to is that a stadium in NYC can be more profitable to the area in Manhattan than to that in Queens. Screw the people who live and work there is what they're really saying.

On another note, why is the NYC 2012 Olympic logo so ... blaaaah. Who designed this? And didn't New Jersey "claim" the Statue of Liberty a few years ago? Why is NYC still using that symbol as it's own? With all the artists living here, this was the best we could come up with? I think Paris has the best one of the lot. Here are the five 2012 city finalists:
